How JFS Helps in Moments Like These
We Start by
Listening to You
The first conversation focuses on understanding what's going on, making sense of your situation, and what matters most to you right now.
Guidance
Without Pressure
Our professional team understands how sensitive these conversations can be and offers guidance with care, without judgment or pressure.
Support That
Fits Your Needs
From there, support may take different forms, depending on what's most helpful. It may be provided directly by JFS or come from a community partner.
Support JFS Provides May Include the Following:

Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming. Many people know they want support but aren't sure where to start or who to trust. JFS can help.
We start with a brief assessment to understand what you're looking for and what kind of help feels right. From there, we provide three personalized therapist referrals and arrange a complimentary 15-minute consultation with each one, so you can get a sense of each person's style before making any decisions. You choose who feels right.
The cost is $50. If that's a concern, we can help.
If you are in acute crisis, we will connect you directly with MUSC or Charleston Mental Health Center.
-
Grief is hard to carry alone. JFS hosts a monthly group open to anyone in the greater Charleston community. We meet the fourth Tuesday of each month at noon at Emanu-El Synagogue, 5 Windsor Drive, Charleston.

For some people, talking with a rabbi feels more natural than talking with anyone else when something is hard. For others, what's weighing on them is a question rooted in faith, meaning, or spiritual identity. JFS has a rabbi on staff who serves as our Jewish Community Chaplain and is available for honest, private conversations when that's the kind of support that feels right. Anyone in the greater Charleston community is welcome to reach out.
