How JFS Helps in Moments Like These

We Start by
Listening

The first conversation focuses on understanding what's going on, making sense of your situation, and what matters most to you right now.

Guidance
Without Pressure

Our professional team understands how sensitive these conversations can be and offers guidance with care, without judgment or pressure.

Support That
Fits Your Needs

From there, support may take different forms, depending on what's most helpful. It may be provided directly by JFS or come from a community partner.

Support JFS Provides May Include the Following:

  • When you can't cover an essential bill and aren't sure where to turn, JFS may be able to help.

Short term financial assistance is available for basic needs like rent, utilities, and medical bills, serving as a bridge while you work toward steadier ground. Eligibility requirements apply. Reach out and we'll help you understand what's available and what comes next.

  • Higher education costs keep rising, and financial aid often leaves gaps. JELF provides interest-free loans to local Jewish students to help cover expenses that other aid doesn't reach, including housing, food, and books.

You may qualify if you are Jewish, a permanent resident of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, or Virginia, enrolled full-time in a degree or certificate program, and in good academic standing. Additional eligibility requirements apply.

Reach out to JFS or visit jelf.org to learn more and get started.

  • When an unexpected financial challenge arrives, an interest-free loan can make a real difference. JFLC provides loans of up to $4,000 to Jewish community members in the greater Charleston area for a wide range of needs, including car repairs, medical expenses, legal fees, and housing assistance.

Eligibility requirements apply and a co-signer is required. Reach out to JFS. We can help you understand the requirements and guide you through the application process.

  • Sometimes managing the basics becomes harder than it should be. Food and household essentials can feel like one more thing that is slipping out of reach.

Since 2011, JFS has offered the Kosher Food Pantry, a free resource for individuals and families in the greater Charleston community who need food or household essentials. Rooted in a Jewish tradition of caring for neighbors in need, the pantry is open to anyone regardless of background or religion. Deliveries are available for those who cannot come in person.
